Make A Quarter Ring!

By badbadivy

When my grandfather was in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, he got to missing my grandma, who he had left back in Pasadena, California. He was a Navy Seabee, and he was building...I don't know, something. There are precious few family stories about his time in the Islands during WWII- one of them was when he offered to drive a tanker truck because he was bored and wanted to get off base. The only problem was, he had never driven a tanker truck before. Fortunately, he managed it without looking too much like an idiot.

But the family story I'm here to tell is about him missing my grandma. He was thinking about her, and he wanted to get her something nice. Unfortunately, most of his money was going to support my grandma in Pasadena, and the rest of it was going back home to the relatives in Indiana, who needed money, for whatever reason. So he took his last quarter, walked into the machine shop, and walked out with a ring he had made from that quarter.

When he passed away at age 53, my grandma took her wedding and engagement rings off, but she has never taken the quarter ring off. When she passes away, that ring will belong to me. I always wondered how my grandfather made that ring. Now I don't have to wonder anymore, because this website has detailed instructions on how to make your own quarter ring.  So, if you're broke but have some tools, you can have a nice gift for your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, or all of the above for just a quarter.

What a great story, thank you for sharing!  I had no idea you could do that with a coin, I've never heard of it before.  This Christmas is going to be very lean for our family, you can bet everyone will be getting something handmade from me, an it will only cost 25 cents a head, plus my time and a little brasso!  How cool, thank you so much for sharing!
