Making CFL bulbs less ugly?

By badbadivy

I read this morning on Lavender Sparkles' blog the exact same thing I have been wondering:  Is there any way to make the CFL bulbs' light not so, well, ugly? She says the light from them looks cold and industrial, and I totally agree.

So, anyone have any ideas on how to make them look nicer?

The easiest way to make a CFL bulb less ugly is to put a lampshade over it.  Duh!

Choosing a CFL bulb with a color temperature of 2700K is the key to getting non-industrial looking light.  2700K looks like a normal bulb and has a yellowish tint instead of the bluish most people associate with fluorescents.  It also helps to change out all bulbs in a room to the same brand/color of CFLs, so that all of the light is more uniform in color.
