Would you ever buy one of these?

By badbadivy

I wrote about this a little tongue-in-cheekly at my gardening blog. Would you buy a cannon (that really works, minus the cool cannonballs) for your yard? What do you think the neighbors would think? Is it tackier than most lawn ornaments? Is it worse than a lawn jockey? I just cannot decide.

Caya, good point. It would be fun to have on a large piece of property, my property is so small, the neighbors would probably think I was about to start a war.

I think it would depend on a number of factors. Are you surrounded by left-wing, organic health-food store shopping, NPR-listening hippies? Then it would come off as menacing, perhaps. Are you surrounded by pirate-types? They would probably think it was really cool, and it might get stolen. Are you surrounded by right-wing conservative gun-carrying folks? Then they might wonder if you're going to use it on them, and/or applaud your defending your rights. Now, up here in the patch of New England I'm in, I think you'd just get a bunch of weird looks, but no-one would ever say anything. Now, myself, would I ever buy it? I think war is not cute. I would prefer not to have such a reminder of death and the horror that is war. I might buy it though, if I had a good bit of acreage that I could play around shooting things into though. That would be REALLY cool-but that is the only reason I'd buy it.

Personally I don't like most lawn art unless it's truly art and not an old stove like our neighbors down the way have.  Luckily the curves in the road and trees block it from view.  I think I'd prefer the cannon.  Well as long as the barrol was cemented in or at least not aimed in our dirrection. ;P
