Gardening help!

By badbadivy

Those of you who are container gardening gurus: do you know what causes brown edges on your leaves? Is it over watering or under watering? I'm watering my plants about every 2 days and the pots have good drainage, but I'm still getting brown around the edges of my leaves. Gah! My plants hate me! Maybe I should go out and talk to them?

And just because, here's a picture of some plants that are doing way better than mine:

I'm pretty sure it was overwatering- my dad told me I should only water if the soil felt dry, I was watering every couple of days and the soil was still generally moist! Oy!

I'm not an real expert but from my experience it could be a number of things:

Overwatering; air too hot and dry; too much mineral salts if you have used a lot of fertiliser.

That's not very helpful I know. But it does depend on the plant and its requirements, your location (just checked - you live in Nashville so it could be hot and dry I guess) and the plants situation.

Think overwatering is most common cause - but thats a stab in the dark

Ugh, I know the feeling! Seriously, someone smarter than me needs to comment on this, b/c I'm horrible at this too! I have an adorable little yellow begonia that I'm trying to keep as a house plant, but I'm not sure it likes me... I've been trying to find articles on how to raise it, but i'm so confused! "convetional pot"? saucer? um, ya, i just have it in the pot it came in, on top of a little plate.... pretty sure i'm doing it wrong... but whatever!

+2.  I hope someone here knows their potted stuff! I think I'm misreading this sign as well. I tend to overwater, then underwater, then....tragedy.

Nothing to add here, just a +1 for this question. I have a bad tendency to overwater, so some advice on this would be welcomed.
