Any last minute laminate-laying tips?

By badbadivy

So, we bought our laminate flooring and all the 80 million accoutrements like trim, underlayment, etc, etc. yesterday. Tomorrow, we lay the laminate flooring we have been wanting for the past, oh, forever. We have friends who have done laminate in their own homes coming to help us with the process, and I've read everything I could find about laying laminate flooring.

I think we're ready. Curbliers, do you have any tips you would care to share? Anything you wish you'd known before you started laying your laminate flooring? I'd love to hear anything you've got on it.

I'm brand-new to the curbly site but we just finished installing laminate on our second floor. I browsed over on Garden Web and found a great pictorial tutorial for the brand that we used, Lumber Liquidator Dream Home Nirvana. I'm sure the steps are essentially the same.

A couple of tips - when you need to cut off the bottom of door trim, use the laminate padding & a piece of the laminate (layered on top of each other) to use as a measuring guide.  That way you have enough space to get both the underlayment & laminate under the door trim.

And another - assuming you want to buy another tool (it was a life saver for us!)  The Speed-Lam is a very simple tool for measuring around curves, angled walls, uneven walls, etc.  Very easy to use.  Just email the inventor to get one, he's very nice and the tool is cheap.
