Draw an octopus mural on your wall

By badbadivy

I did this project a long time ago, so I don't have step-by-step photos. I do actually remember how I did it, so I can give decent instructions.

Supplies needed: pencil, sharpie, acrylic paint in colors you want to use, 1 inch paintbrush

Optional supplies:  Opaque projector or overhead projector.

First, prepare your walls. dust them down and paint in whatever manner you would like. I used a color wash applied with a sea sponge for my walls.

Take a pencil and draw out your mural very lightly, if you are drawing freehand. You can also use an opaque projector or overhead projector to project an image on your wall. If you do that, keep in mind that you won't be able to draw over corners of the wall like I did.

Once you have your pencil lines drawn, step back and take a look to make sure your octopus (or whatever it is you're drawing) looks how you want it to look. If it looks okay, use your Sharpie to carefully draw over the pencil lines. Be extra careful, because of you mess up while drawing your Sharpie lines, you'll either have to just live with it, or primer over the entire area and start again.

Use your 1 inch paintbrush to fill in the lines with the colors you want. I started with the smaller areas first, then did the larger purple area. Make sure to keep your painting within the Sharpie outlines- it makes a nice, crisp outline and makes your mural look better.

Accessorize and enjoy!
