$150 couch? Sold.

By badbadivy

I posted about our futon beginning to break here before. My husband was on vacation last week, and although I prodded him gently about getting to work building something, he didn't. So, on Friday night, my dog was the straw that broke the futon's back.

My husband and I were sitting on the futon watching television when the my 10 pound dog, Tiny, jumped up on the couch and the back of the futon came crashing down. We, of course, laughed that he needed to lose some weight. He spent the rest of the night shivering.

"You should have gotten to work building something," I told my husband. He grinned at me and asked why I didn't build anything. I informed him that he was on vacation last week, and he had ample time to build something, I did not. After he mumbled something about being a freelancer equalling always being on vacation, we set out on a search for a new couch.

We didn't want to waste our good futon mattress, which is less than six months old and  is really, really comfortable. (If you're buying a futon mattress, go with the innerspring kind, trust me. It is sooo comfy.)  Unfortunately, all the futon frames we came across that we liked were over $400 and already came with futon mattresses. We could have gone with a standard, ugly black futon frame for $75, but I felt that would be going backwards in our design scheme.

We looked all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Finally, at the last store we could think of, we found our couch. The store is one of those consignment furniture places. Normally, I feel their prices are a bit on the high side, and their furniture is a bit too standard for me.  My 12 year old said, "Hey, mama, what about this couch? It's only $150."

My ears perked up at the mention of a $150 couch. I looked over and there it was, the couch I had been looking for.

Sorry for the bad angle on this! There just wasn't a good way to get the entire couch in the shot!

Of course, we bought it. Now, the only problem is deciding how to rearrange the living room. Certain people want the couch to go where the futon was. Certain others of us think the couch is too big the be sitting out in the middle of the room. Certain people are too lazy to carry the television across the room. Certain others of us are too weak to do it by themselves. So the debate continues, but at least we have somewhere to sit while we're debating.

That's what it's like, a raw silk. I looked for any kind of tags to get a clue as to what kind of fabric it really is (for cleaning purposes) but couldn't find anything. My best guess is raw silk, though.

lovely couch--especially the arms and feet.  what sort of fabric is it upholstered with?  looks like silk or something.
