new take on magnetic spice rack
By atrophieso i don't cook, but i do craft! and i have a crafting desk specifically for my hobby. i've always heard that if you don't have much living space, go vertical! i've loved magnetic spice racks since i first saw them, so i decided to put a new twist on the original idea.
my messy workstation:

i don't have enough room, as you can see, and i already installed a shelf above the desk.
i went to the Home Depot and bought a 12"x12" square of 26ga galvanized steel for just over $5, then went to Wal-Mart and bought a bunch of round magnets. i took my stuff home and drilled holes on the top and bottom of the steel sheet, then screwed it onto the wall.
THEN i started gluing the magnets onto the lids of my pigments, dyes, and glitter container with E6000 craft adhesive.

i let 'em dry...then stuck 'em on the steel. it looks awesome!
that photo doesn't show everything that's going to go on the wall, and my desk is still messy, but it's a start, and it's makes finding the right colour pigments really easy!
i'm getting into using magnets for more things. they are so useful!
i also 'built' a shelf for my bathroom. i bought a plank and the wooden shelf brackets, cut the plank to fit, and painted everything.
i don't know if i'm going to keep the shelf this colour or repaint it. the brackets are useful because they cover holes in the wall that a towelbar was screwed into (i'll have to reinstall the towelbar when i move out of this apartment).
