i know i haven't updated in forever, so i thought i'd post this little tidbit:

picked up a wastebasket at Goodwill for $1.99.

hated the colour, loved the shape.  picked up some Krylon  Fusion black spray paint for plastic surfaces for around $5.  a few coats and hours of drying time, and now i've got a really classy wastebasket for my room.

i'm not sure if i should spray it with a top coat of anything.  it seems to be doing fine s » READ MORE

Girl!  So glad you've found this site.  You and DIYMaven totally make my day here.  She's Queen of Crafts but you bring it on a budget and I LOVE that.  Please keep up the posts. I can't wait to read you both!

You are just the cutest thing! I've been reading your posts and progress on your new home. You have wonderfully creative ideas, and it's just so fun to watch you pull things together! I hope you'll keep sharing what you've accomplished, and the end result (if there is ever an end to decorating and design). You're really doing such a nice job, and your drive to jump right in and put things together in a way that makes it home to you, is refreshing. I did have an idea, you may or may not want to try. When I saw the new green shelf you "built", and you mentioned the old towel rack...You could keep that idea and put some kind of bar under that shelf, so that you could hang small towels from under the shelf, between the inside of the brackets. (Not sure the length of your shelf). With your ability, you could cut a thick dowel and nail it to the inside bottom off your shelf brackets (under the shelf), or if you really want to get into the thick of it, route out holes in the brackets and just slide the dowel thru. I can't tell if I'm describing this clearly. : ) Just a thought to roll around... Well, keep us updated, have fun, and I've really enjoyed watching your ideas come to life! Take Care, ~Good Mom~

I remember going into a shop once that sold aromatherapy candles that smelled particularly marvelous. I told the woman that worked there they need to sell a candle that smelled like the shop. She said she was sorry they didn't, but if I wanted to re-create the scent I could...I just needed to buy one of ever candle they sold!

Heya!  I personally like the idea of having exposed cabinets.  I'd consider leaving them open and getting larger baskets/containers with lids (to hide the contents).

As for the holes there are a number of products you can "fill" them with.  Although, if they are larger holes a trick I learned years ago, was to use a wooden golf tee -- wedge (tap) it in the hole and cut off the excess, then color.
