No drab walls in this apartment!

By aliciak

I am not one for drab walls, meaning white or grey colored. In the two apartments I have lived in Brooklyn, that allowed painting, that is one of the first things I did. I formulated a design plan to loosely work in terms of my bed cover, posters, photos, and furniture. Luckily, cheap Ikea wood furniture matches a lot! In this current apartment with my boyfriend, we decided to paint the "office nook" in stripes, and the rest of the attached bedroom in the same green in the stripes. I have no patience for taping, but my boyfriend measured the stripe widths, drew lines in pencil and taped for the first color. After that, I only did taping on one side of each line, freehanding the other side. I did a second coat of paint for the white and touchups without any tap. A lot of people walk in and assume it's wallpaper. You can also see some of the "accents" painted in the same blue; I painted the candle holders, curtain rod, two shelves, a picture holder, and most recently, a framed collage.
