List to start a craft library by

By abmatic

My library of crafting how-to books consists of exactly two volumes scavenged from an estate sale. This christmas is time to change that. Here is $200 of essential (and some maybe less essential) books to make my collection.

Total Price: $197.01

Quilting:

1. The Modern Quilt Workshop: Patterns, Techniques, and Designs from the Funquilts Studio, by Bill Kerr, Weeks Ringle
Price: $15.61
My quilting skills need help and I hear that this book will bring me the answers.

2. Denyse Schmidt Quilts: 30 Colorful Quilt and Patchwork Projects, by Denyse Schmidt, Bethany Lyttle
Price: $16.47
Denyse's patterns and color choices are really inspiring. She also has some good ideas about how to organize the sewing of a quilt to make it manageable.

Embroidery:

3. Sublime Stitching: Hundreds of Hip Embroidery Patterns and How-To (Spiral-bound) by Jenny Hart, Alexandra Grablewski (Photographer)
Price: $13.57
Oh Jenny Hart... anyone who embroiders a skateboard is ok in my book (or library?)

For my knitting habit:

4. A Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker (Paperback - May 1998)
Price: $30.00
If faced with no obstacles I would really want the whole set of Barbara Walker stitch pattern books. I often borrow them or check them out of the library but its time I had my own copies!

5. A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker
Price: $30.00

6. Charted Knitting Designs: A Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker (Paperback - Jun 1998)
Price: $30.00

7. A Fourth Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker (Paperback - Sep 2000)
Price: $30.00

Last but certainly not least, for my design skills (and maybe my professional development as a scientist?)

8. The Visual Display of Quantitative Information by Edward R. Tufte (Hardcover - May 2001)
Price: $31.36
Tufte's books are eye opening and, if I am lucky, they will help make my science day job comprehensible to people other than me!

www.abebooks.com has the Walker books cheaper than what you have listed. www.bookcloseouts.com is also an excellent place to get books and they have a dollar sale going on now. www.edwardrhamilton.com is also good.
