need to refinish a dresser

By You Make Me Smile

We have our first guest staying in our house next week and I REALLY need to fix up our guest room. I decorate in a clean, modern style and have done so in the rest of our house. Unfortunately, the guest room looks like a scene from little house on the prairie. Luckily, the dresser actually has very straight lines, but just has a HORRIBLE green color. I'm looking to redo the room in a light/birch-type style furniture, but don't have the money just now. Can anyone suggest a temporary fix in the way of a faux finish for this dresser? I think with a new finish and some updated hardware, it could really look great. Thanks!

Okay, these are just some ideas...stuff I might try in a pinch but I have no idea what would appeal to you.  First, am a huge fan of Canyon Black spray paint (american traditions).  This would sleek up Laura Ingalls Wilder herself, but that particular scenario is rather extreme.   Anyway,   That is probably not your first choice in color, but it would be fast and sort of one step and easy to take care of when you do refinish.  Second, you could try a wash of some sort to mute the green in your preferred direction.  That'd be more work, I think.  Finally, and it's a long shot--wallies.  Perhaps you can find a clean modern design in that vast collection that would make the sting of the green almost *intentional* or *edgy.*  They go on w/water and come off w/water.  Easy peasy.

Actually, I think my first choice would be a look at the American Traditions colors (Diymaven has them here somewhere) and see what might do the quick trick.  Budget-wise, you can get a bag of wooden drawer pulls at one of the big Arkansas based box stores, but I don't know if that would be what you want.

Good luck and sand lightly between coats.
