Welcome Inside Our Home

By VintageSwank

We just wanted to share some of our room design with everyone. Our home is a great mixture of eras and styles that flow together gracefully. We paint in mostly primary and secondary colors, using tertiary colors to accent or balance (except the babys room, we just went for a vibrant cool combination). All the hallways and display walls are a nice battleship grey which is a trick art galleries use to make anything on the wall pop. You can see the » READ MORE

Don't Toss Those Vintage Kitchen Cabinets

By VintageSwank The first place most people start renovating in their homes is the kitchen. More often than not the old kitchen cabinets are tossed aside for more modern ones. In our own home we utilized a small section of vintage metal 50s cabinets as furniture in our modern baby room. Baby’s need style too!

We took the overhead cabinet and mounted it to the wall to server as a storage unit for sheets and all the things baby needs, since they seem to need » READ MORE

Retro Awakening

By VintageSwank

It's always hard to pick one place in your home that makes you happy, but if we had to choose it would be our living area. This open nook is a great place to sit and talk and relax. The textured glass and chrome ceiling lamp gives the walls the effect of being underwater when it's on. All the furniture is vintage and even the painting is a vintage original Lee Reynolds.

By VintageSwank

Ever wondered how to clean and restore that great vintage plastic orb lamp or telephone you found, maybe even your storm door or CDs? Ever wonder how can I maintain new plastic items I buy so they always look new as the day I bought them, even my kids toys?

One of the most common problems one encounters with vintage plastic products and the upkeep of new plastic products is how to properly clean and restored their items. If you've ever found a g » READ MORE

Cigarette Machines - An art revival

By VintageSwank

After acquiring a great piece of mid-century modern machinery, the quest began to decide what to do with it. This great vintage cigarette machine is probably passé in the eyes of many, but the pure art of it was something that couldn't be passed up.

In our search to see what the best option for this piece would be we stumbled upon this great project. It’s called Art-o-Mat. Art-o-mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have » READ MORE

Build A Modern Bed

By VintageSwank

In responce to a question posted on Curbly, here is how to build an inexpensive but still very modern bed.

You can achieve a nice low bed with a very simple design. You could simply build a square frame that rests on the floor at the desired height by using 8x8. This would give you a nice 8 inch rise off the floor you could even go with 8x6 or 8x4 if you want real low. Cut the length to be a bit smaller than the mattress so you can create a ni » READ MORE

It Just Takes One Great Piece

By VintageSwank

The biggest dilemma anyone encounters when confronted with designing a room is where to start. Do I pick the wall colors first? Do I pick the drapes? Do I pick the furniture? Do I pick the art?

Well it’s always a good idea to start with a focal piece that is your pride and joy and go from there. This piece could be a piece of art, a great chair or even some amazing fabric.

Exterior Wall Art

By VintageSwank

What's big and beautiful and full of inspiration?

Well a two story vintage pinup painting of Marilyn Monore of course. This great piece of exterior wall art was photographed on the side of a building in LA. What better form of inspiration do you need?
