Show some support for Vintage Swank : Our re-opening is at stake

By VintageSwank Vintageswank1-mini_medium

As many of you know we have been undergoing a huge renovation of our building to include a new second floor showroom. As part of this project we refaced our mid-century building with a facade we felt emphasized the 20th century feel. This was approved by the architecture review board for the town of Front Royal. The architecture review board has recently decided that the already approved facade on our building wasn't what they thought it was going to be. You can read a recent article at http://www.shenandoah.com/stories/?headlineID=14258&sourceID=68 for some insight. We are trying to get the support of our customers and people of... »MORE

By VintageSwank 14_full_large

So I'm sure you all have seen the Dyson. The modern styled vacuum that is not your mother’s canister vacuum.     Well of course everyone says, it's a vacuum how much better can it be than ever other vacuum out there....well I was skeptical too, until I got one. I had no idea how dirty I was and now I cannot stop vacuuming. They come in a variety of styles and options. I got the animal which is meant for people who own pets. It does work!! My carpets has life again, the knap is back and the 10 year... »MORE

We at Vintage Swank wanted to open the floor to anyone who may have questiosn specifically around the care and use of vintage items in their home. We are well versed in how to care for everything from chrome to plastic and would love to share our wisdom. We are currently in the process of creating more tutorials to add to our site in the upcoming year and we would also entertain ideas for those as well.Happy decoratingVintage Swankwww.vintageswank.com »MORE

Welcome Inside Our Home

By VintageSwank Modlivingroom1-mini

We just wanted to share some of our room design with everyone. Our home is a great mixture of eras and styles that flow together gracefully. We paint in mostly primary and secondary colors, using tertiary colors to accent or balance (except the babys room, we just went for a vibrant cool combination). All the hallways and display walls are a nice battleship grey which is a trick art galleries use to make anything on the wall pop. You can see the grey in the living room.Living Area Babys RoomVintage Swankwww.vintageswank.com »MORE

Don't Toss Those Vintage Kitchen Cabinets

By VintageSwank Modbabyroom2-mini_large

The first place most people start renovating in their homes is the kitchen. More often than not the old kitchen cabinets are tossed aside for more modern ones. In our own home we utilized a small section of vintage metal 50s cabinets as furniture in our modern baby room. Baby’s need style too!  We took the overhead cabinet and mounted it to the wall to server as a storage unit for sheets and all the things baby needs, since they seem to need everything. The base cabinet has a formica top and plenty of storage for diapers and clothes. By adding... »MORE

Retro Awakening

By VintageSwank Modlivingroom1-mini_large

It's always hard to pick one place in your home that makes you happy, but if we had to choose it would be our living area. This open nook is a great place to sit and talk and relax. The textured glass and chrome ceiling lamp gives the walls the effect of being underwater when it's on. All the furniture is vintage and even the painting is a vintage original Lee Reynolds. Vintage Swankwww.vintageswank.com »MORE

Ever wondered how to clean and restore that great vintage plastic orb lamp or telephone you found, maybe even your storm door or CDs? Ever wonder how can I maintain new plastic items I buy so they always look new as the day I bought them, even my kids toys? One of the most common problems one encounters with vintage plastic products and the upkeep of new plastic products is how to properly clean and restored their items. Cigarette Machines - An art revival

By VintageSwank Eastern_large

After acquiring a great piece of mid-century modern machinery, the quest began to decide what to do with it. This great vintage cigarette machine is probably passé in the eyes of many, but the pure art of it was something that couldn't be passed up.   In our search to see what the best option for this piece would be we stumbled upon this great project. It’s called Art-o-Mat. Art-o-mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art. There are 82 active machines in various locations throughout the country. It’s great to see life put back into... »MORE

Build A Modern Bed

By VintageSwank Buildbed

In responce to a question posted on Curbly, here is how to build an inexpensive but still very modern bed. You can achieve a nice low bed with a very simple design. You could simply build a square frame that rests on the floor at the desired height by using 8x8. This would give you a nice 8 inch rise off the floor you could even go with 8x6 or 8x4 if you want real low. Cut the length to be a bit smaller than the mattress so you can create a nice overhang which is very modern and adds that bit of design... »MORE

It Just Takes One Great Piece

By VintageSwank Danishcabinet_large

The biggest dilemma anyone encounters when confronted with designing a room is where to start. Do I pick the wall colors first? Do I pick the drapes? Do I pick the furniture? Do I pick the art?Well it’s always a good idea to start with a focal piece that is your pride and joy and go from there. This piece could be a piece of art, a great chair or even some amazing fabric.  This 1960s Danish Modern teak credenza became the focal point of our living room the second we found it. It offers up a great combination of modern style... »MORE

It's not all that often you come across a new art form, and sometimes you just find an old art form given a new spin on life. Best Vintage and resale in Washington DC

By VintageSwank Top100winnerlogo

Vintage Swank has been recognized by Washington’s CBS affiliate, W*USA 9, in the first annual "A-List" competition as the "Best Vintage and Resale in Washington DC."  “We were ecstatic to see the great comments our customers wrote about their experiences with Vintage Swank. The strong show of support they demonstrated helped confirm that you don’t have to be in a trendy neighborhood to offer the best quality and selection to your customers,” said co-owner Mitch Hazam. The 2006 W*USA 9 A-List contest provided a platform for consumers to vote and determine the best local businesses in Washington DC. Between July 18th and... »MORE
