The Little House That Could

By TijuanaTaxi

created at: 2009-05-24Meet my first house.  It's a little house that's been slightly neglected over the years by the previous owners.  When my realtor showed me the house, I immediately knew that this was a serious contender amongst the other fifty properties I'd seen.  Upon taking a closer look (and smell), I also knew that this little house was going to be become a second job.  Besides the fact that this little house would take a lot in the 'labor of love dept', was also the fact that my extremely small budget for home improvements would force me to work hard at making my dollars stretch until the printed presidents on them screamed for mercy.

This is the story of how this little house will slowly evolve into something more than a neglected, foreclosed and forgotten home.  This little house is getting a face-lift...one dollar at a time; one project at a time.  As you watch the house develop, I hope that you'll find little things YOU can use in your own home.  More than anything I sincerely hope that you'll find this inspirational.  Perhaps you'll find things YOU'D like to change in your own home even if money is a little tight for all of us right now.

Why is this little house so important to me?

Growing up I lived almost my entire life at the same old house.  Recently I flew out to California, drove to my brothers house and took a detour to the house that I grew up in.  It was TRASHED!  All of the times we had in that house, both good and horribly bad, didn't really matter to the new inhabitants.  It truly broke my heart to see the house I grew up in in such horrible shape.  When I saw the house in its current state, I immediately listened to one of my favorite performers, Amanda Palmer and a touchingly beautiful song she wrote about the house we ALL grew up in.  I'd LOVE to see people create slideshows to this song and post them on their own blogs to show the world all the amazing moments that your own house has shared with you and your family.

Enjoy, keep checking back for the progress on The Little House that Could and don't forget to tell your house how much you love by simply taking care of it!

  Sincerely,

Note: I keep tryin' to add either a link for the video or the embed the video itself and it's just NOT WORKING :( I've tried to look in the faq section an find nothing at all to help me out.  If you're have ideas on what I'm doing right, please let me know.  Right now, and no matter what I do I get the odd little line of html gibberish you see here.
