Finished DiY Lamp

By StillSubtleDance

I meant to take pics of the whole process, but didn't remember to until I was already done. oops! Well, here is how the finished product looks.  A little hard to see, and much cooler looking in person, but I am pretty excited about it!  Everyone seems to really like it who has seen it so far.

I bought the gems online at a wholesale craft website.  The base and glass are from Target.  They came together as a hurricane candle holder thing.  I bought the cfl bulb and the wiring kit at Lowe's.  All we did was drill a hole all the way through the wooden base, and then made another small hole in the side.  We fed the wire through the side hole and the wires from the bulb through the hole in the top so we could reach in through the hole in the bottom to connect them, then we covered up the hole in the bottom with some stick on felt. we held the cfl bulb in place as we filled up the glass with the gems, until there were enough to keep it from moving around, then just filled it the rest of the way!  The cord has one of those switches on it.  I'll probably end up painting the cord black to match the wooden base, but for now it is still white.  I haven't let it run for an extended period of time yet, so you may want to do that (outside) if you are thinking about trying this.  It isn't a lamp I would really use for hours and hours at a time, it's more for decorative purposes.  Although it is bright enough to read by if you wanted to.  Hope you like! :)
