Mirror that wont empty my bank account?

By StillSubtleDance

I really want to buy a mirror for the living room wall in my new apartment next year.  I loved a few that I saw at Urban Outfitters a while back but I just couldnt bring myself to spend the money.  Any ideas for places I could find something that isn't cheap quality, but easier on the budget? I am looking for something unique, so any DiY ideas are always a good idea as well.  I'm in my hometown over the summer and we have a ton of antique stores, so I was thinking of looking there for something that I could add my own personal touch to. I'm open to any and all ideas! Just remember I am working with a college student budget here ;)

If you have lots of antique stores you might be able to find a gem that meets both your budget and your taste. Otherwise you could make your own mirror.
Assuming you found an antique frame you loved, you could probably go to the hardware store to find glass, and then have the glass silvered by a pro. Glass is heavy, though, so you'd really have to be sure the frame could stand up to it.

Here's a site that describes how to make your own mirror, from the frame onward: http://www.uniqueprojects.com/projects/wallmirror/wallmirror.htm. If making your own frame isn't in your plan, you might be interested in the other info such as mirror backing, glass thickness, etc.

 Good luck!
