Green Thumb

It may still be too early to start planting your garden, but it's definitely not too early to start planning. So for those of you excited to start digging in the dirt, I came across a handy (and free) garden planning tool at Gardener's Supply.
The site provides six different 3'x6' pre-planned raised vegetable garden designs based on a simple 1'x1' grid pattern (the grid allows for maximum yield in the pre-defined space). The variety of garden plan themes include Salsa & Tomato Sauce, All American, Salad Bar, High Yield, Plant It & Forget It, and Cook's Choice. Each plan is easily edited by dragging alternative plants to the segmented design. When you replace a vegetable choice, you will be shown exactly how many plants can grow in the space alotted. There is also an option of starting with an empty garden and adding vegetables as you see fit.
The only drawbacks I found when playing with the site were the limited variety of vegetables and herbs available in the program (about 30 are listed) and the inability to change the dimensions of pre-defined 3'x6' garden size.
Gardener's Supply also provides background information on plants, step-by-step instructions and other helpful information...besides selling a ton of products. Happy planning!

Love this post. I planned my garden and am going to sneak out to buy my supplies. Have to sneak because Mr. Mod thinks he's Mr. Farmer Extraordinaire. I'll let him continue with his little dustbowl plot of ground he plants and then forgets about. My garden will be beautiful. I'll post photos.
