Wall Stickers

By Sijbrich Wallstickers_large

I saw some of these wall stickers for sale in a museum gift shop in Rome.  I think they are beautiful!  There are some very Georgia O'Keefe-ish poppies, along with a bunch of other designs for just about any room of the house.  I think the animals are my favorite.Check out the website for yourselves: http://www.nouvellesimages.com/eng/index.html »MORE

Cardboard Furniture

By Sijbrich Cardboard3_large

I know a couple of you have already shown pictures of cardboard furniture, but the other day when I walked by this store, I couldn't help but go inside and take a few pictures of my own.  I especially like the white and green bookshelf.  I think a whole room of cardboard brown furniture would be a little too much for me, but I think it's interesting to see the different styles that can be achieved with something that has traditionally been reserved for only boxes. »MORE

Beday

By Sijbrich Rome_006_large

I like to think that I'm a pretty open-minded person that likes to try new things.  However, I have never been able to bring myself to use a beday.  It seems like people appreciate them just about everywhere outside the U.S. In fact I've even seen one or two in the U.S., as well.  But I really just feel like I'm always going to be a paper kind of girl.  And I could think of more useful things to do with the space in the bathroom.  Am I strange for feeling that way?  Has anyone out there ever used a beday?  I... »MORE

Help me solve a mystery

By Sijbrich Mystery_cord_large

My husband and I are in Italy for about 3 months.  We have a great apartment, but we are both a little mystified by these things that are in both showers.  It looks like some sort of emergency device, given the red tab and all, but other than that, we have no idea what it could be for.  Can anyone enlighten us? »MORE

Italian style

By Sijbrich Couch_and_table_large

My husband and I are in Italy for three months and I just thought I would share a few photos of our lovely apartment.I never really considered putting red and orange together, but I think it works quite well. I really like the dark wood and leather that accents the bright colors and brings balance.  This landscape shot is the view from our living room window.  The mountains that surround the town that we live in are dusted with snow. Here's our modern kitchen.  It's small, but I like the clean lines.  Also, a shot of the bathroom.  That towel rack on... »MORE

hardwood floors

By Sijbrich Tulip_medium

My husband and I would like to install hardwood floors throughout parts of our house someday.  We both like darker, earthy wood, but that's about all we know.  Does anyone have any experience with installing hardwood floors that can give us some sort of starting point to our investigation into the subject matter?  The more earth-friendly, the better. »MORE

Bulletin board

By Sijbrich Before_1

I was having a serious problem with pictures sliding down the fridge because the magnets weren't strong enough.  I guess I could have just gotten better magnets, but I thought this was a more fun solution to the problem.  I got this bulletin board idea from Blueprint magazine and I like it alot.  I already had the frame, ribbons, and button tacks that I had made several years ago, so I only had to buy some cork and a swatch of linen fabric (although I probably could have found something in my fabric stash.  I guess I was too lazy). ... »MORE

Painting the family room

By Sijbrich Tulip_medium

For the last month or so, I've been toying with the idea of painting our family room.  Our entire house is an off-white/taupe color and I think it would just be nice to have a little more color in it.  I was thinking a cheerful, yet cozy shade of blue would be nice - a shade that would compliment our dark blue couch.  However, the family room spills over into the eating area and continues in a circle through the kitchen.  I'm not only apprehensive about painting with a different color, but also about where the heck would I stop... »MORE
