Zipper Lamp

By Runeshai

Maybe not the most economical project, since you'd have to buy the zippers, but may be more so if you have a bunch of old zippers ready to be crafted into something else.  Plus it looks kinda cool.

After looking at the instructions a little bit, it looks more complicated than I'd thought, but still a cool project, and I'm sure there are ways to simplify it and change it to your liking or capabilities.  I remember making a lamp with a wooden frame and using rice paper for the shade.  It was just glued to the frame, and the light mounted on a cross-piece inside, but the look was somewhat similar to this one.  Anyway.. cool look for a handy weekend project.

The zipper came as a single 15 foot roll for about $15. The Ikea lamp shade and light socket were only a few dollars. The nuts and bolts it stand on were about $1. Then there were odds and ends I had lying around like the glue, lightbulb, etc... The laser cut acrylic base... well... I'm sure you could work something out ;-)

Anyhow, thanks for posting!
