There's a website called angieslist.com that has local feedback on general and subcontractors. I'm approaching that stage on a new home project in Seattle, so I'm going to be glued to that site once I start selecting people to do the job.
I checked, and the site has a SLC-specific section. It's a subscription site ($3/mo), so I didn't look inside to see how prolific the recommendations are for your area.

creede, congrats on getting your permits approved! That sounds like a giant hurdle. Are you building in Salt Lake? I wish I had some good leads on subs for you. I have a friend who did some great tile work for us, but that's about it.

creede, if you find any internet savvy subs, it'd be great to have them come join us on curbly!
