Thanks for the input, yoooo. I've really appreciated everyone's comments. Despite the fact that our move appears to be on hold for the time being (family stuff, etc), this is giving me some great information for when we are finally able to make the big move. Thanks everyone!

I agree with northeast. Very quiet neighborhoods but close to cool restaurants and bars and close to downtown. I walk there a lot. Uptown is indeed very cool if you're 22. Everyone should live there for awhile. But as for settling down, it's so crowded it would make me crazy to try and park. Close to lakes.

To be honest, bad things can happen anywhere. Minneapolis is pretty great I would just avoid North Minneapolis at all costs. Even the northern suburbs are bad. Northeast Minneapolis is a fledgling neato frito neighborhood. Actually I work in NE and its fantastic. Right along the river. Alot of history and there are more bars and churches than you can shake a stick at.

Sorry Deb, but uptown is waay overrated. There is no sense of community there. Plus it gets overrun by suburbanites every weekend and there are no places to park!

I would also not bother with St Paul. The streets there are pretty messed up.

pro tip: south of 40th street, east of 35w in south minneapolis is good, cheap and safe-ish (safer and cheaper than uptown anyway)

Thanks so much! We've been thinking a bit about Uptown. We'll have to take a peek at Seward, too. Sounds lovely.

There are plenty of great neighborhoods in the Twin Cities. I live in Uptown, Minneapolis and love it. Very urban, close to lakes and the bike paths that take you all over the city. Also bars, restaurants, the YWCA, and much more. A lot of people like the Seward neighborhood. It's a bit less crowded than Uptown, has a great natural foods Co-Op and lots of parks. Check out http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/neighborhoods/ for more information about different neighborhoods in Minneapolis and good luck with your move.
