Mmmmm.... Bubbles. Refill a Foaming Soap Dispenser

By lilybee Soap_bubblel_medium

Bubbles are brilliant, ergo, foaming hand soap is also brilliant. We recently scored some Kandoo foaming hand soap for free, but it's Flouro-green-death colour is frankly disconcerting. I wanted to refill the container with something that doesn't look like it will melt your hands but the container warns you not to refill it with anything but Kandoo products. "PAH!" I said, and did a spot of research. Turns out that you can simply use your favourite hand soap diluted by 1 part soap to 2/3 parts of water. You fill to about and inch and a bit from the top... »MORE

How To: Pipe Part Candlesticks.

By Chrisjob 404+pipe+candle+holder+display+%287%29

So, there's this show on the DIY Network, "Creative Juice" and the hosts are probably totally cool in real life, but they try waaaaay too hard on camera. But yesterday, it came while performing the most unpleasant of household tasks -folding laundry- because my wife dumped the basket of clothes on top of the remote. (I'm sure there's a button on the box, but I have no idea where it is) So, I was preparing myself for double-irritation city...and I still think these personalities are totally outta control, but these plumbing pipe candlesticks seem cool enough. Materials: 3/4" lead pipe,... »MORE

Help! My braided rug is looking like a bowl.

By rdougher 100_0225_medium

Tearing out what I've constructed on my DIY braided rug AGAIN.  I've never made one before, and it keeps curving upward like a bowl, this time at around the 8th row of my oval.  I'm open for suggestions BEFORE I try this anymore. I have about a gazillion yards of braid, so I don't want to quit.  Thanks for sharing. »MORE

Food and water safety after a flood

By aidkit Icon_missing_medium

Floods are the most frequent natural hazard in North America and we seem to have had to endure quite a number of them recently.    A devastating flood can occur at any time of the year and are most often caused by heavy rainfall, rapid melting of a thick snow pack, ice jams, or more rarely, the failure of a natural or man-made dam.    One of the major issues that will affect everyone living in an area that has been flooded is that of food and water safety. Food safety after a flood             If in doubt... »MORE

Dog Days of Summer Makeover: How To Show Off Your Legs

By ModHomeEcTeacher 12

If you find yourself flea-marketing, Goodwill Hunting or garage sale-ing in the dog days of July and August, be on the lookout for the unassuming beauty hiding behind a frumpy skirt.  I'm talking about modern furniture legs, of course.  One easy way to re-vamp a vintage chair or sofa is to rid it of its leg-hiding skirt.  Of course you need to take a peek underneath to make sure you have some attractive gams to work with.  Here are some tips to consider before going skirtless. Make sure the main fabric comes all the way to the bottom of the frame... »MORE

How to make conversational task clips.

By DIY Maven Img_0001

Yesterday while surfing, I came across these ‘Importance Task Clips’ at Perpetual Kid (12 for $7.99). I thought they were a clever organizational tool and--better yet--totally diyable! What you need:several medium-sized (1 1/4") binder clipsa label-maker ORan extra-fine-point paint pen (I used an opaque white) What you do:For the label option, you’ll want to experiment with the ‘width’ function on your label maker. I set my P-Touch (model PT-80) to ½ width size so the letters are skinnier. Then, you just type, print and trim your labels to fit the clips. I applied one label to the top of the clip... »MORE

Wilton’s giant cupcake pan makes a, well, giant cupcake. The pan itself is divided, so you bake the top part and the bottom part separately. Then, you ‘glue’ them together with icing. Project Runway Apartment Tour

By DIY Maven Image002

If you haven’t heard, PR Season 5 started last night, which means my Wednesday nights are complete once again. It also means we get a peek inside the designers' new home at the New Gotham building. The contestants were housed among six apartments for their two month stint. They consisted of one and two-bedroom units that measured between 650 to 1,000 square feet. Gotham donated the space for the show, but if the average joe wanted to sign on the dotted line, they’d have to come up with $3,100 to $4,100 a month for rent. For a tour of the... »MORE
