Pirate Furniture....ARG!
By DIY Maven
Crate & Barrel’s Taka Trunk isn’t being billed as pirate furniture, but, as NotCot points out, it could certainly be at home in Jack Sparrow’s captain’s quarters. C & B is marketing this funky trunk as an ultimate coffee table multitasker. It has three–count ‘em, THREE– hinged lids that reveal secret, but ample, storage areas. And if that wasn’t cool enough, it also has a small front drawer for clickers and things and the lid support arms act as additional tabletop space. When closed, the trunk measures 44" w x 24" d x 18" h and will set you back... »MORE

Minimalist Bedside Radio
By DIY Maven
MWT is having an issue with his bedside alarmclock radio. Only one station comes in and it isn’t one we want to hear at 6:30 in the morning. So, we’re shopping for a new one. When I spotted The Hidden Radio I thought I might have found a replacement. By Australian designer John Van Den Nieuwenhuizen, the radio ‘attempts to be silent both visually and functionally by having the cap in the downward position. By lifting the cap the user proportionally increases the volume. The further the cap goes up the louder the sound gets. To tune the radio you... »MORE

to berm or not to berm
By ricki
…is not even a question. I love berms, and everything seems to grow bigger and better in a berm than in flat ground. The moles are industrious little fellows. Whenever it rains, or wherever we water, this is a typical scene of their work. I might scoop up the light, fluffy soil as many as four or five times, only to have them push up another mound. I could grind my teeth and hurl expletives their way, but instead I praise my little crew for providing me with a steady supply of material. Above is a shot of a berm... »MORE
Indian inspired guest room
By livyschoolgirl
So lately I have been contemplating how to decorate my guest room to make it crazy fun while still being a nice space for guests. In a hunt for inspiration I turned to my tried and true method - magazine flipping. I picked out several things that I liked and it turned out they all had the same theme - ornate Indian details with bold bright colors! After I thought about it for a while I realized that I was probably predisposed to picking out those pictures since I'd seen a Bollywood film recently and fell in love with their use of fresh marigolds... »MORE

Techhie Trade Show or Mid-Mod Chat Station
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Donnie Deutsch always says "Look at what everyone is doing, and do the opposite." That's what Mr. ModHomeEc got when he asked me to help him with booth decor at a medical techhie trade show he's doing. Once I saw all the dark blues, silvers, tech signs and graphics, I knew his booth would stand out, good or bad, I have yet to hear. The vintage living-room-like setting already attracted many customers, just during set up. Time will tell if he garners any bona fide business from this MidMod chat station. This was one of those times when you start doubting your decisions at the... »MORE
