You could dip the fabric in ModPodge and wrap it on a knob, sculpt it and let it dry. It would be so adorable.

To be honest, I am thrilled! about the results of this project. I would have never thought about it, I was just going to buy a new chair.

Then, I saw this and took another look at my chair (which is actually a nice chair - metal base, sturdy wheels, and a great shape - for a task chair, that is) and at my fabric remnant bin.

The chair will look so great with my wooden roll top desk! I am considering replacing the knobs on it with knobs I cover in the fabric that is on the chair!

*squeals* Why is this SO fun?!

LMJ-don't you just love it when you complete a project that makes life more comfortable and prettier?

I'm so glad you tried it. I went on a binge and collected way too many inexpensive, ugly desk chairs--all stacked up in my garage.

SO... using your idea, I recovered my UGLY task chair!

It sat at my desk with a throw over it to disguise the horrid blue itchy wool/felt seat and to keep my thighs from being rubbed raw!

I didn't take the old fabric off, because it actually gave the new beige floral fabric a good base.

Man o' Man, I can't wait to sit in that chair!

Just finished tearing it down, removing the untied spring unit and will clean it, sand and paint and then will adapt it since it won't have springs and cover it. (I hope it lives up to the picture I'm imagining in my noggin.)

I'll be doing a "green" conversion of a chair into a desk desk chair so I'll be working right along with you.

Thanks for the help! I'll probably be doing this over the weekend and will let you know how it goes. ;)

I would have to see it, but you can probably remove the back fabric carefully and discover how it's put together.  It's the best way to see how to put it back together.  Post pics if possible.
