Free Campaign-o-Lantern Templates

By DIY Maven Image002

The Associated Press is getting into the spirit of things with 11 downloadable pumpkin carving templates all with a campaign bent. Choose the visage of your favorite candidate or candidate’s wife (sorry, no first dude here) or the symbol of your favorite party. OR keep things apolitical with a simple get-out-the-vote pumpkin, which is the least toilet-papering provoking of the bunch.

Need tranquility? Try a Himalayan Salt Lamp.

By DIY Maven Extra-large-salt-lamps

I lust over the Himalayan Salt Lamps at my local co-op. Is it because my aura is attracted to the lamps’ infusion of negative ions in the air making me fell tranquil and relaxed or is it just the warm amber glow? Who knows. Either way, they make me feel all yummy inside. For a nice selection, check out Salt Lamp Creations where you can find a variety of styles like the large salt lamps pictured above ($50) or the affordable salt tea lights pictured below ($13). To learn more about salt lamps and their benefits, see this article.

I used to be in mad love with Matt Wertz and still listen to his tunes every now and then, so I loved perusing through Jeremy’s portfolio to find this lovely Matt Wertz photo.

Ahhh, if there were a soundtrack of my life.

Make a Fish Bowl Jack-o’-lantern

By DIY Maven Bdfishbowlpumpkinboo

Bella Dia shares a very clever way of making a perpetual jack-o’-lantern out of a fish bowl. All you need is a round fish bowl, some orange and yellow tissue paper and some Modge Podge. The procedure is so simple, a pictorial tut is really all you need! Via.

Apply yellow tissue paper with Modge Podge to the face area and let dry.

Cover everything, excluding the pumpkin's features, with orange tissue paper. Let dry and pop in a candle!

Recycle CFL Bulbs at any Home Depot

By tmgeorgo Painting_medium

In case you didn't know, you can recycle old CFL bulbs at any Home Depot store.  This news is a bit old (see the pdf below for details), but I was reminded of it when I was in my local HD today and they had a new, very prominent and colorful station setup at the entrance of the store where you could drop off used CFLs and Rechargeable Batteries.

I thought that was pretty cool.  Safe disposal for these bulbs always been way more diffcult than it should be, so it's nice to see another retailer stepping up to the plate and doing their part.
