I think maybe one could use wallpaper scraps too, if they had those around. Or maybe pretty fabric?

i saw this post the other day and i saved it on my laptop so i wouldn't forget about it. this is definitely a great idea, and i'll be putting it into use as soon as i have the opportunity!
