to berm or not to berm

By ricki Molehills650

…is not even a question. I love berms, and everything seems to grow bigger and better in a berm than in flat ground. The moles are industrious little fellows. Whenever it rains, or wherever we water, this is a typical scene of their work. I might scoop up the light, fluffy soil as many as four or five times, only to have them push up another mound. I could grind my teeth and hurl expletives their way, but instead I praise my little crew for providing me with a steady supply of material. Above is a shot of a berm... »MORE

Indian inspired guest room

By livyschoolgirl Indian_002

So lately I have been contemplating how to decorate my guest room to make it crazy fun while still being a nice space for guests. In a hunt for inspiration I turned to my tried and true method - magazine flipping. I picked out several things that I liked and it turned out they all had the same theme - ornate Indian details with bold bright colors! After I thought about it for a while I realized that I was probably predisposed to picking out those pictures since I'd seen a Bollywood film recently and fell in love with their use of fresh marigolds... »MORE

Techhie Trade Show or Mid-Mod Chat Station

By ModHomeEcTeacher Tradeshow_010

Donnie Deutsch always says "Look at what everyone is doing, and do the opposite."  That's what Mr. ModHomeEc got when he asked me to help him with booth decor at a medical techhie trade show he's doing.  Once I saw all the dark blues, silvers, tech signs and graphics, I knew his booth would stand out, good or bad, I have yet to hear.  The vintage living-room-like setting already attracted many customers, just during set up.  Time will tell if he garners any bona fide business from this MidMod chat station.  This was one of those times when you start doubting your decisions at the... »MORE

Color Changing Paint

By DIY Maven Eclipse-animation

Eclipse is described as ‘a single event heat reactive basecoat’ that just happens to change color. It’s available in black to white and blue to white formulas, but the effects aren’t as limiting as those three colors suggest. Actually, the effects are endless, as you can integrate Eclipse with other colors. Right now the makers seem to be focused on the auto industry, but I can foresee home decor applications as well. For more information on Eclipse and its applications, visit alsacorp.com. Via. »MORE

Turn vintage suitcases into side tables.

By DIY Maven Luggage_table_2

You know how sometimes you see an idea on the internets and think, ‘of course!’? Well...this is one of those times. Not only do these old suitcases make adorable and interesting side tables, they also provide storage for magazines, books, remotes and all that other flotsam and jetsam that  clutter our lives. They couldn’t be too hard to make either. Four legs and perhaps a plywood base–for added structure–onto which you attach the suitcase itself. Fabulous! Via. »MORE

How To: Quick, Easy, and Temporary Garden Lights.

By Chrisjob 2780034787_94dd52d216

Solar garden light kits are cool, but can be pricey, permanent, and are just begging to be run over with the lawnmower. So, here's a sweet DIY alternative: "make your own ultra-low cost temporary garden lights using LEDs, lithium coin cells, and mason jars." Materials Lithium coin cell batteries Ultrabright LEDs with diffused lens Mason jars and lids Tape Simply attached the LEDs to the batteries, and tape into place. Tape the whole thing to the lid, screw it on, and install. "Like traditional luminarias, these jar lights are temporary. However unlike luminarias, LED jar lights are waterproof, won't blow... »MORE
