Wine Bottles and Chalkboard paint (spray or regular)???

So my friend owns a restaurant and wants to put some wine bottles on the tables inside

and outside etc

I have read here and on the net that most suggest SPRAYING chalkboard paint on the bottles..

I was wondering if it is okay to just PAINT them with chalkboard paint?

Could you elaborate a little on this? Why are you painting wine bottles and what is the significance of a painted bottle on a rest. table? A bit more info and perhaps we can help.
