Update to Dresser turned into Sideboard Buffet

By Nimue Sideboard1_large

FINAL UPDATE BELOW!Several months ago I posted about changing our old and very outdated dresser into a buffet.  I painted it black and it was much improved.  My original post is here.Over the last few days I've REALLY turned the dresser into a sideboard.  I added 6 legs, new knobs with some of my Grandmother's costume jewelry attached, and a 2nd color of paint that matches one of the darker colors in my dining room curtains.  I also used some leftover door surround to add some height to the piece. Here it is now:     The Knobs:   If you have any ideas about what... »MORE

Old bureau dresser turned into Buffet - Sideboard

By Nimue Dresser_before_sm_large

*2 Photos have been added to the bottom of this post because I've updated the dresser turned sideboard AGAIN. For years this old dresser has sat either in our guest room or the 'junk' room - too ugly to use when we had better options.  It was inherited from my husband's Uncle so we've been hesitant to get rid of it.  Turns out that with a little paint & new knobs it makes a nice buffet for the dining room.  The extra drawer space really comes in handy because our kitchen is teeny tiny. Before  After (nickel knobs bougt off ebay, 40... »MORE

By Nimue Rocket_closet_large

If I can manage painting a rocket, then you can too.  Maybe not a rocket, but you get the idea.  I printed out a simple rocket clip art design, eyeballed it while using a level to pencil lines on the doors, held my breath and started painting inside the lines...and managed to not make it ugly.  It's not 'Art', but it's not bad for paint-o-phobic like me.  Hopefully this will encourage someone else to try something they're been afraid to.  I meant to outline the details with a black paint pen, but never got around to it.  And wish I'd added... »MORE

Sheet Metal Headboard

By Nimue Headboard_large

We made 2of these a couple years ago for our boys space themed room. I later painted the frame black and really like that look with the cool steel.  The names were made by punching a nail through the sheet with a hammer (but be careful, it scratches easily; 'liquid nails' was used to glue on the wood frame, and then it was screwed into wall studs.    Now that our oldest has his own room with a loft bed, we've hung it on his wall.  The kids love displaying artwork, photos, and notes on it with magnets.    We used... »MORE

Make Costume Jewelry Artwork Collage for your wall

By Nimue Small_-_p1010004_large

This idea comes straight out of the 1960's.  It's an easy and creative way to make art from your costume or junk jewelry (any outdated & cheap stuff - nothing valuable of course) - or any other small items that are appealing to you (marbles, small toys, misc. doodads found in your junk drawer?)  The examples shown here were made by my Grandmother and her sister.  When I repaired the larger tree piece, I used Omni-Stick glue, but any waterproof & metal safe glue will work.   I am making two more art pieces for my cousins, using my late Grandmother's... »MORE
