How to... Recover a Disaster of a Closet.
By NCavillonesWhen we couldn't see the closet floor, when we couldn't find Henry's passport, when the light fixture broke, all these things were signs that our closet was reaching the point of no return. First, I took the lazy (and broke) girl's way out-- I pleaded to Real Simple magazine to give me a closet makeover, but they didn't even respond to my e-mail. I guess the pictures scared them.
The other lazy (rich people's) way out is California Closets. Besides being too expensive, the process is too convoluted. You have to hook up with a consultant, said consultant comes to your house, figures out what you need, brings it all back, and THEN renovates your closet. Too annoying.
Next was Elfa, at The Container Store. Also very expensive and if I pay that much money for a closet system, it better come with installation (which it doesn't).
I turned to my trusted internet and searched Home Depot for closet system. That's how I found out about Rubbermaid's Configurations system. Yes! Cheap, easy-to-assemble, and who doesn't love Rubbermaid?! Lazy girl that I am, though, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of schlepping to Home Depot, especially since I don't have a car (or a license for that matter but I digress).
I'm fairly regular visitor to Target, so one day last week, I popped in there to check out the closet system options. Lo and behold, they had the Rubbermaid Configurations system. Praise be. I grabbed (lugged, rather...it's heavy!) that thing and dragged it home in a gypsy cab.
You can see pictures of the whole process here. (I tried to embed the slideshow here for you...)
