The path to fabulous sites is not usually a deliberate one. Sometimes you just happen to fall into a blog that you didn't dream existed. First, I tripped on Cococozy, a new favorite, and this gorgeous oval turquoise tufted ottoman. Then, I was stopped dead in my tracks when I started readingthe blog Velvet & Linen by LA designer Brooke Gianetti. (They had me at "Velvet & Linen".) I mean, look at the jute webbed bench!!! Did they read my mind?
There are simple, chic, and, with the right tutelage, DIY-able upholstered pieces you'll want to see for yourself if you are drawn to dressmaker details, tufting, burlap and velvet. The clever burlap headboards, velvet chaise lounge and burlap tufted bench---I LOVE them all!!
If you're up to the challenge, I do know of a thorough little diamond tufting tutorial you may want to check out on ApartmentTherapy.
Warning: It won't be easy to find this beautiful turquoise velvet. Last Fall I ended up dyeing velvet in a metal tub to get a similar turquoise color. Close, but never quite got it.

Very Good idea, I do have old hat to try it on first; by the way is that your real picture? I would have been a home ec major, our High School home ec teacher never looked like that; well maybe when she was 20 but at 60+ yrs old home ec not first choice.

Hi Jay-I've been searching for an answer to your question. I don't think it would combust if you brushed it on in layers, letting it dry in between. I don't know the absolute answer to this. Why not try it on some canvas fabric, letting it dry between coats and then see how you like it?

I am wanting to waterproof my new canvas hat???to be like the oilskin stuff (Linseed???) What about it can I do that? Will the cloth trun out like the "outback oilskin duster, and Hat" or just be a dripy thing that will catch on fire in the closet when I least expect it. Can I just brush it on or do I have to stretch the fabric? What will it (linseed) do to leather (it has a leather band)??? regards
