Brick patios and paths don't have to be sidenotes to your outdoor living. With careful design and preparation, these brick surfaces can provide quite a bit of architectural design with their pattern and placement.  They can even be downright works of art. Once the foundation specifications are determined, it's time for the fun part. As in any tiling project, there are several different directional placements that project a different look. Mike at How I DIY shows seven distinct designs and how angling the pattern affects each one.

You're right !?  I wonder if it is all those nice straight lines and the geometric pattern that give it a modern look?

I know. It looks so earthy and old-fashioned, yet modern. How could that be?

One company (I think it's E P Henry) makes brick pavers with holes in them for grass.  The idea being that you can use them for a driveway and the brick protects the grass from being crushed by car tires.  I always thought it would be so cool to have a driveway like that.

It's amazing how the angles make them look so different.

Thanks for this! We're thinking of doing a patio this summer, and these patterns will be helpful.
