Barbie's Mid-Century Ranch HomeTour
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Barbie turned 50 this week which got me thinking about the endless childhood days I spent 'playing Barbies' with friends, dressing and redressing my curvaceously perfect plastic Barbie and her auburn- haired sidekick, Midge. Then one day it all changed when my bargain shopping mom negotiated a good price on a used, but still intact, Barbie's Mid-Century (Atomic Ranch-like) Dream House, completely furnished with colorful cardboard furniture. See room-by-room photos after the jump.
My life changed in an instant! It was the end of fashion and the beginning of furniture arranging, rearranging, and trading in and out different furniture pieces striving to make Barbie's interior look like the modern dream home I longed for. I'm sure this is where it all began.

Seeing this ebay treasure brought back those indescribable butterflies in my stomach and transported me right into the basement of Barbara Parry's real Mid-Century-Modern Ranch on Dean Road.

Another Oh My Gosh. I just saw the "print" on the wall of the Victorian. I always thought my love of VICs went back to when we moved to Omaha, late in sixty five. I remember seeing all the now gone beautiful Vics alone the street we drove when going down town. Now I'm wondering if my first love for them didn't stem from this doll house!? I now live in a Victorian Revival. This is too weird.

OH my gosh, I remember when that came out and I got it for Christmas! I recognized it the second I scrolled down. I have no clue what happened to mine, but it sure brought loads of fun to me and my friends. I was the only one that got one. The first to get Ken too! My Barbie and later Allen and Skipper were all redheads, but then so am I. My Midge was a brunette, Francie was a blond. I don't believe you could get her with red hair.
Thank you MHET for bringing back such wonderful memories. I'm sure mine go much further back than yours do. :^D I wasn't old enough to get the first Barbie, but I had the second style that came out which was the lovely bubble cut. What fun!

I have NO idea. It's like once I stopped playing with it, I never looked back. My mom probably re-sold it in one of our garage sales. Also, I remember trying to collect different pieces of furniture to upgrade it. I found a little brass bed somewhere that ALMOST was just right, but way out of scale. I just kept adding more and more random pieces. Hmmmmm? Sounds very familiar.
