Winter Rx: Grillin' Out
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Around my house, nothing lifts our spirits more than a tasty, healthy meal cooked out on a smokin' hot grill. We've adopted an untraditional tradition of grilling out on Christmas Eve. Whether it's burgers and brats, or a pork tenderloin, we feel like we've broken the rules a little bit..... Shoveling the snow, bundling up and tending the grill are minor inconveniences compared to the rebellious delight of enjoying a summer meal on a cold winter night.
The entire Grill theme could be just the present for someone in your life. Here are a few "side dishes" you could add to this gift to take it on into the Spring and Summer. This is also a great way to get a head start on healthy eating for 2009.
- The King of Grillin' Bobby Flay knows how to turn up the heat!

- Grills stay on the floor throughout the winter in many stores.

- Men love their tools and grilling tools are no exception.

And why not turn it completely upside down with some (unholiday) summer party tunes?
(This may be a little generic, but you get the gist.)

So many possiblities spring forth with a gift like this. You could buy platters, little summery lights to hang inside, pitchers, grillin' clothes, summer clothes, a scale, a gym membership and on and on.
You could also start planning a Superbowl Grillin' Party. (Colts, I'm just sayin'...)

I think it's more like we're bucking the traditional holiday meals, going casual that makes it fun.

I don't know if it's a Canadian thing, but we barbeque all year. I had a little chuckle when I read the headline on your post ... we have almost 2' of snow now and plan on firing up the barbeque tonight. We keep it close to the door this time of year so it is at least a little protected.
