Goodwill Hunting Desk Chair

By ModHomeEcTeacher

Don't be intimidated by the prospect of reupholstering an ugly or stained office chair with seemingly complicated mechanics.  This office chair was purchased at my FAVORITE furniture store-Goodwill, for a whopping $6.99.  I had oodles of a fabric remnant I purchased for $5.99 a yard.  This chair took approximately one yard of fabric.  I am waiting for a website adjustment to post the remainder of the pictures.

Tools:

Material:  1 yard fabric

Just finished tearing it down, removing the untied spring unit and will clean it, sand and paint and then will adapt it since it won't have springs and cover it. (I hope it lives up to the picture I'm imagining in my noggin.)

I'll be doing a "green" conversion of a chair into a desk desk chair so I'll be working right along with you.

Thanks for the help! I'll probably be doing this over the weekend and will let you know how it goes. ;)

I would have to see it, but you can probably remove the back fabric carefully and discover how it's put together.  It's the best way to see how to put it back together.  Post pics if possible.

Brilliant tutorial! I have a different kind of office chair, tho. Mine has an upholstered back to it that links into the front piece. Do I just pry them apart or should I remove some part of the backing to access screws?

Thanks.  I spend LOTS of time doing just that.  Thought it was time to share the juicy finds.

Even right now I'm tempted to make a run to the GW to see what's new.  I'll just chew a piece of gum.
