When I was a kid my parents bought an abandoned 18th century farmhouse - a minuteman had once lived in it and fought at Lexington and Concord. Anyway, my brother, parents, friends and I spent a number of years taking it down and with the help of some more skilled labor put it back up on a new piece of land. That was my foundational experience as a DIYer and an old house enthusiast. In college I studied art history and was introduced to 20th century modernism: I fell in love. Now, I am realizing a long-held dream - converting a 19th century timber frame barn into a modern home for my family. You can read all about it on my blog: barehillbarn.blogspot.com.

Bare Hill Barn House
By ModBarn This is what our modern barn home WILL look like, some day in the months to come. The frame is a restored 19th century barn, but the architects have designed a modern, open plan for the new living spaces. This view shows the main level, which contains a living, dining, and kitchen area as well as a two loft levels - all open to the old rafters.Bare Hill Barn House Blog
