Looking for experience and advice in building interior stackstone wall
By LULUBELLEOver the Christmas holidays I'm trying to undertake a project to build an interior stone wall at a home in Austin, Texas. I'm not sure where to start, what to buy, where to buy and who to hire to get it done if I can't do it myself. I've attached a photo of the look I'm trying to go for, but it's from a hotel wall in Madrid, Spain!
These are my questions if anyone has a possible answer:
1. The stones themselves: I'm going for a contemporary look of stackstone. The problem is, the only manufacturer who comes close is the Owens Corning Pro-Fit ledgestone but I'm not wild about the pieces sticking out so far or such a variety in coloration. Any advice on where to buy?
2. Should I be looking at local quarries instead? (Austin has a lot of limestone)
3. Is this something I can do myself or do I need a mason?
4. It is a very large and very high wall. Do I need to put an additional board on the wall for extra security from the weight?
Thanks for any advice, as you can see by my questions I have no clue what I'm doing!
