Jewelry Organizer

After months of storing my jewelry on a mug tree, I finally finished making this organizer that hangs above my dresser. I like having my jewelry visible and most jewelry boxes don't work for all the necklaces I have anyway.
I bought 1/2-inch mesh from Home Depot (the kind used for fencing) and cut it down to the right size. I probably could have had it cut for me, but I wasn't sure of the size I wanted until I got it home.
I threaded ribbon through the outside border to finish it off a bit. Most pieces are hanging on S-hooks, though some earrings are just hooked through the mesh.
All in all, the total cost was less than $15 (mesh, ribbon, and S-hooks).

I created an account just so I could post here and say THANK YOU KRISTY for coming up with and telling us about this ingenious idea!!!!!!! I found your post by researching jewelry organizers (mine had gotten out of hand!). The best ones I found were furniture types that were at least $200 (yikes!). Plus, those are big and bulky and unable to be customized like yours!!! With yours, I can see all of my jewelry (except for really small earrings and rings, which I store in a small jewelry box) and totally customize it to best fit my jewelry pieces. It's SO organized and it's not a pain to get to my jewelry - plus, it looks great too!!
I wound up using 1/4" wire mesh and 1" S hooks. Everyone has been SO impressed with this idea so far, and when my sister saw it, she said it was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen! hahaaha Anyway, you totally rock Kristy, and thanks again for posting this. My bathroom was becoming a mess due to all the jewelry - you have improved my quality of life!!!!!!

rock on. i felt compelled to create my own jewelry storage solution, too! luckily, my bathroom had an extra medicine cabinet that was the perfect fit. i screwed in lots of hooks for the necklaces. then, for the bangles, i drilled holes large enough to accomodate wooden coat pegs. and for the earrings, i found pine flats about 1/8" thick and 3/4" wide sawed tiny 1/4" notches into the tops (for the ones w/ backs), and drilled a row of tiny holes below that (for the ones w/ wire hooks) before screwing them to the door through 3/4" spacers. at the time, i was really insistent that the earing rods look velvety, like the interiors of commercial jewelry boxes, so i searched high and low for flocking. amazingly, the michael's and hobby-lobbies of my town didn't stock any -- finally found it at a model-train specialty shop.

This is a perfect idea. I've always wanted to do something similar, but I love how this looks.
