Decluttering? Don't Toss it, Freecycle it!

By Keter Logo3

As you declutter your life, you may encounter several typical barriers to parting with items, such as:When items with sentimental value have been identified as unneeded and in the way When thrift stores won't accept items that are too nice to throw awayWhen it just isn't practical to hold a garage sale due to legal or time constraintsWhen throwing away items seems horribly wastefulIf only there was an easy, ecologically friendly way to recycle your clutter!  There is:  FREEcycling! With Freecycling:Your get to choose who receives your items with sentimental value, and you can meet the recipients or not, as you... »MORE

My House

By Keter Weird_duct

I thought I would start to share some pictures of my weird place.  I love the proportions and the solidity of the structure; the surfaces and some of the strange accoutrements, however, need some serious updates.  When I was demoing some decrepit shelves that were hung from the ceiling in the master bedroom, I was hit on the head by something that fell off the very top...when I had a chance to look, it turned out to be a genuine vintage hippy hash pipe! (I gave it to a friend who would appreciate it.)  Whenever I encounter another weirdness, at... »MORE

Concrete Floor Refinishing Experiences?

By Keter Ch1_pg15_medium

Has anyone had a concrete floor (textured or stained) installed in their homes?  Has anyone attempted to do it themselves?  I would like to hear about your experience with the installation, and if you had any unexpected expenses or durability/maintenance problems with the floor.  Also, how thick of a pour is required?  I see some vendors that claim as little as 1/8 inch is required, but that seems liable to chip to me. My house currently has an exposed aggregate concrete floor througout (like what you find around swimming pools).  This was probably really cool when it was newer, but... »MORE

By Keter Ch1_pg15_medium

I was just doing my weekly shopping at my local SuperTarget this evening, and lo what did I behold but FLOR carpet tiles!  They had about 6 different types in stock.  A carton costs $59.99 and is enough to do a 3'X5" area. »MORE

How To Block Adservers with Windows Hosts File

By Keter Ch1_pg15_medium

This DIY computer tweak is for the web and blog addicts on this site. (I resemble that remark.)  It will block most adservers and provide a happier, faster, and more secure websurfing and blogging experience.  This post was prompted by a conversation on another topic in which a community member mentioned he was having trouble with popups and ads on a link I provided.  I wrote this article a couple of weeks ago for another community.  Please read this whole thing and understand it before attempting it; you will be monkeying with Windows system files. It all started this morning... »MORE

DIY Cord & Charger Organizer Box

By Keter Charger_box_large

Via Lifehacker, another method of organizing cord, transformer, and charger mess.  If especially like the idea of labeling each hole with the identity of each cord going through it.  I label my cords using a Dymo label printer, and when a cord can detach from its transformer, or if I'm using a "generic" transformer for a particular device, I label the transformer as well.  (Tape over the switches on the generic transformer, too, to prevent accidental bumps from changing your settings...found that one out the hard way...)LINK TO ARTICLE »MORE
