Modernist magician finishing out a long-neglected concrete lake house.  Could park a tank on the roof, but am making it into a garden instead.  ;o)  Engineers said this house will last at least 300 years (much longer if maintained at all), so everything I do to it is designed to be extremely long-lived or modular so it's easily upgradeable/replaceable.

Try to use organic, sustainable, and/or recyclable materials as much as possible. I moderate and actively participate in the Austin Freecycle (Yahoogroup).

Buying off-the-rack usually doesn't work for me, so I end up adapting or making my own stuff. Usually prefer to do most of my own work because I know I will do the job right and I won't have to deal with somebody else's mess later on.  (If I make a mess of something, at least I know what I did wrong!)

My weaknesses are useful technology (tools are my toys), beautiful woods, and books, but in all other areas, less is more.

Looking for affordable alternative energy solutions because I want to go off the grid as much as possible.  May start doing my own experiments based on Tesla's work if nothing practical presents itself in the next year or two.

Decluttering? Don't Toss it, Freecycle it!

By Keter Logo3

As you declutter your life, you may encounter several typical barriers to parting with items, such as:When items with sentimental value have been identified as unneeded and in the way When thrift stores won't accept items that are too nice to throw awayWhen it just isn't practical to hold a garage sale due to legal or time constraintsWhen throwing away items seems horribly wastefulIf only there was an easy, ecologically friendly way to recycle your clutter!  There is:  FREEcycling! With Freecycling:Your get to choose who receives your items with sentimental value, and you can meet the recipients or not, as you... »MORE

My House

By Keter Weird_duct

I thought I would start to share some pictures of my weird place.  I love the proportions and the solidity of the structure; the surfaces and some of the strange accoutrements, however, need some serious updates.  When I was demoing some decrepit shelves that were hung from the ceiling in the master bedroom, I was hit on the head by something that fell off the very top...when I had a chance to look, it turned out to be a genuine vintage hippy hash pipe! (I gave it to a friend who would appreciate it.)  Whenever I encounter another weirdness, at... »MORE

Don't worry about your health: "The magnetic field on top of the Floating Bed is strongly reduced, so bank cards will not be erased."

Good designers think of everything ;).

Thank you for all the info on wall lettering. I am curious if I buy a role of the good thin stuff and print my letters then cut them, is the vinyl removeable from a painted all. Many others say that they do it on mirrors and windows and i dont wanty to ruin my paint job.

I can also get the stuff at target, is it called thin vinyl

hehe thanks

You might want to check out Waverly's contemporary prints (available online) the majority aren't frilly.

It's great, huh?! I like the gray block wallpaper, too... nice choice. And you're right-- it would look SMASHING in a bathroom! Good eye!

Thanks for your response on my hoarding post: I have not personal experience with this sort of thing, but it's obviously a terrible situation. I just hope people learn to realize the line between messy and compulsive/unhealthy.

I'm not familiar with tatting, myself, but I certainly agree that it could work with crochet.

Maybe if you call your cable company and DEMAND that they provide Bravo, that it's a design emergency!! ;) Think they'd buy it?? I've noticed NBC sometimes picks up the very popular Bravo shows and runs them on regular TV. Let's hope Top Design will be one of them!
