Making a table from birch logs

This how-to really interested me as we have several birch trees we've been contemplating taking down in the yard AND I still need side tables for the livingroom. No storage, but otherwise, I think they're great.
Pointclickhome had this write up about turning a bundle of wood into an attractive, reasonble side table. I'm amazed at the ingenuity of the city dwellers in finding their wood at the flower market. Much cheaper than Conran's $2,000.00 price tag!
