Selling Crafts

By JHRivers

I'm thinking about selling crafts and perhaps some jewelry online.  I recently stumbled upon Etsy and will probably sell my stuff there.  I was just wondering if anybody had any advice for me.

The forums on etsy have a lot of threads for newbies with helpful advice.

Also, they have a blog that has how to articles, as well as articles aimed at buyers that feature items in people's stores:

Most of my sales have been to people who knew me outside of etsy, that is online friends and people who bought from me when I used to sell paintings on ebay.  It's very hard to sell things just relying people who see your stuff on etsy.

It's a good idea to let people that you know offline know that you have a store. I have sold things to people who saw it in my store but bought it from me offline.

Get business cards printed up - you can get free ones at www.vistaprint.com but I think as an artist it's better to make them yourself on the computer so you can personalize them more.

 Good luck!
