Beware breaking needles in sewing machine

By Hovawart

I broke a needle while sewing on my machine last year and the point flipped up and embedded itself in my face just below my eye. Now I wear eye protection to sew.

Oh MY!!!  I always imagine that could happen, but don't really protect my eyes.  I'll think twice cause I break needles a lot!

i looked around my dining room for 20 minutes for a needle tip, turns out it had traveled UP inside the machine still attached to the thread!  i wear glasses anyway so i'm "safe" i guess. thanks for the reminder though!

My grandmother had a needle through her finger once like that, I'm told.

Thats crazy! I have been teaching myself to sew and I think of all sorts of dreadful things like that happening. A friend once told me that his aunt sewed right across her finger! I still don't get that one, even with the presser foot up I still couldn't get my man hands under the needle.
