Wide Side or Narrow??

By Hip2b2

Like the Kings of Lilliput and Blefuscu in Swifts "Gulliver’s Travels" arguing about which end of the egg to open, my wife and I have been debating the “proper” end of an ironing board to use when ironing a shirt. I am the Big-endian, my wife the Little-endian (after 23 years of marriage we have resolved all of our major differences and are left with issues of only minimal significance).

Here is the thing, in trying to resolve this dispute we have noticed that men tend towards the Big-endian camp and women towards the other.

So which is it, Big or Little?  Curious as to your reasons too, it might help us settle this one.

Well, it's a simple matter of ergonomics. Most actual women's shirts (not just men's styles in pastels, labeled women's shirts) are smaller, with tucks and darts and curves. So they need the small end, to fit in those curves, and handle all those tricky spots, and deal with the lesser width. A man's shirt is basically a rectangle, with a few pleats in a dress shirt at most. It is bigger, and the wide end is just fine for that. So said she, of the household of four who all wear mostly 100% cotton, and she who irons it all.

Definitely the small end for me. You have better control in areas like sleeves and such. But omni is right, ironing sucks. The only thing I like less is folding clean laundry.

Irons are evil and so are the boards that promote this task...let the dry cleaner people do the evil task...burn the board and agree that both ends are evil and that you will never iron again. :)
