Swanky Lounge. ...at 1/2" scale :)

My wants as far as dining tables go were few - solid wood, clean lines and, most of all, small. This one extends and appears to be oak. (I will strip and refinish later on down the track.) We picked it up on Trade Me for NZ$62. We're thrilled with it... and the extra space it gives us in the lounge!

The two chairs were also found via Trade Me. The seller mentioned that there was "a bit" of rust. We've given up on sanding it all off and are considering a non-toxic rust remover. Then I can oil the seats (solid kauri) and we can actually begin using them...

Chris's grandmother kindly gave us her old china cabinet. It's beautiful!

Chris's grandmother kindly gave us her beautiful old china cabinet - we love it! We're thinking of collecting old cameras to display, but in the meantime we've filled it with books, cards and some knick-knacks (tarot deck, pewter butterfly, ceramic mushrooms, jade buddha, zen garden, teapot and a bit of china for good measure).

I'm not generally a fan of veneer, but I love this piece we picked up on Trade Me last month. I brought the surreal cityscape with me from the States - originally it was hidden away in a Santa Fe antiques store. The dwelling line drawings are from my partner's mother; these old calendar images were the first pieces of art she and his dad hung in their first place together. The small abstract piece is by my father, the tea tray advertises Canada and the fern frond and beeswax candles were gifts from my parents. The tiny calendar (2005, natch) features the art of Armand Vallee; my dad used to frame for him. Erik Davis's <i>The Visionary State</i> is my favourite coffee table book and a source of great nostalgia for wayward ninth-generation Californians like myself who wish never to return. I gave Chris Oblique Strategies for Christmas last year, and this year's gifts are hidden in the cabinet on the left. Lots of books, the few albums I brought with me or purchased in 2006 and my beloved Alchemical Tarot deck, along with an as-yet-unframed print by my incredibly talented friend Meg Hunt.

The (temporary) dining room table is a loan from Chris's mum, the tablecloth my old makeshift curtain in Santa Fe, the milk jug from our local thrift store, and the mobile from Nest. The flowers were a surprise upon my arrival home from work today.

Just another view, nothing exciting. We got the hexagons on sale from Urban Outfitters for $15 when we ordered the blanket; I painted them and Chris was responsible for their arrangement. I hate our dining table.
