DIY SciFi interior design?

By Elwood Jetson

There was the guy in England who did his condo in a Star Trek style (http://www.24thcid.com.   Is anybody else doing something similar?  I'd be more into a brighter Jetsons or 2001 look.

I've half heartedly looked at stagecraft forums for any tips, but all I've found has been advice on how to make wooden frames with fabric stretched across them.  Does anybody have a collection of links for vendors of things like electroluminescent strips, or removable wall panels (to replace drywall), or even design examples?

Thanks balubalu, I also saw that article.  Wow, imagine what it cost to have Doug Chiang design it!

Thanks, Chrisjob.  Those books look like a good starting place.  As for the movies, I would go with still pictures instead: http://www.fabiofeminofantascience.org/RETROFUTURE/RETROFUTURE1.html

I'd watch a lot of movies from 1967-72, when spacey kitsch was the rage. Check out the book PAD and PAD Parties by Matt Maranian.

Thanks Caya123.  I don't have a clear picture yet.  I'm looking for a collection of options to help guide me.  Here is another thing that is out there: the Space 1999 apartment: http://www.space1999.net/~sorellarium13/housepictures.htm

You could try looking at Make magazine (makezine.com), or Instructables. I think you could start with a picture of what you want it to look like, and then break it down into details- how do I do that counter? How do I do that lighting over there? And so on. Once you break it down into individual items, then it becomes much easier to figure out how to do it.
