6. clean out household file drawer once a year. if it can't be pitched, box it with last years papers. this means manuals for hardware and software you no longer have, recipes you never made, paid bill stubs etc..
7. keep receipts for electronics and their manuals together (stapled is even better) in a file folder for the life of the machine. you never know.
8 cut down the newspapers to ones you truly read or just weekends read the newspaper and comics online.
9. if you pay a bill by mail. open the bill and put it in it's envelope, then write the amount of the check in the space where the stamp goes or on the underside of the flap. put the unpaid bills in a row with the soonest first etc... then you can see what the check amount needs to be without reopening the bill. [usually i scroll through to see whom i can pay]

eliminate as much paper as possible.
1 put a trash by the door even better on the porch and throw junk mail out before it comes in. open packages immediately and toss or recycle the packaging.
2. digitize paper you only need to reference infrequently. either scan them or use an online faxing service and fax them to yourself and then index the digital documents and chuck the paper copy. I use this for old invoices and correspondence.
3. after tax time box last years paperwork and move it to the garage or someplace. mark the boxes with the year and then throw them away unopened after 3-7 ears depending on your situation.
4. change as many paper bills to paperless and go electronic. if you don't want to automate the payments,(i dont) i set up my computer calendar to remind me to pay the bill the week before it's due. google calendar will even email or text message you.
5. have a mental limit on how big you let your 'in' box get. when i can't see the desk top next to the keyboard - I FILE. this is a killer.

Traditional toast (bread) holders make wonderful letter holders. They definitely add a classic touch; however, good luck in finding them. :o)
