Folding chair is less than an inch thick

By Doug Aamoth

Now THAT's a folding chair. The 2F chair from Finnish designer Hannu Kahonen folds to 25 mm flat, which is less than one inch. Better yet, one side of the chair is black and the other side is white, so you can change up the colors to suit your mood.

The entire thing is apparently made from birch veneer plywood, so it's probably not all that expensive. No word on whether these will be produced and sold to the public, though. You could probably » READ MORE

Because waiting for the bus should be fun

By Doug Aamoth

created on: 05/29/08

Wacky Archives has some photos of seven pretty cool-looking bus stops. I'm not exactly sure where these are each located, but if we had a hollowed-out watermelon bus stop near my house, I'd probably ride the bus all the time.

There's also a pretty incredible giant-snake-meets-roller-coaster bus stop and a few very comfortable looking stops as well.

I've dropped some of the coolest ones in this post but you can see more here at Wacky Archives.

Cereal boxes turned acrylic for the ultimate light fixture

By Doug Aamoth

created on: 05/29/08

This oughta bring back some memories. Cincinnati artist Matt Kotlarczyk has perfected the art of transferring everyone's favorite sugar cereal box artwork "onto heavy acrylic with ultra violet-protected inks. Some low-watt flourescent light bulbs get placed behind the delicious-looking stained glass, as it were, and hung on your wall or from the ceiling.

Pricing is available upon request from Matt's aptly-named Refined Sugar Studio web page. I » READ MORE

Finally, a use for all those pudding containers

By Doug Aamoth

created on: 05/28/08

I'm not really a pudding guy, so it's hard to say how long it'd take me to empty enough pudding cups to build a sweet pudding cup lampshade like this. It looks cool enough that a trip to Costco to load up on a pallet of after-dinner treats is starting to seem like a pretty good idea, though.

This particular lampshade is made from 70 empty containers. Its creator, Kianee, says that the containers are simply held together with little rings and t » READ MORE

Ah, the old coffee table. So dependable, so reliable, so...boring?

Here's another in a long line of coffee tables that do more than just hold cups of coffee, remote controls, and aging magazines. This particular one comes from Retro-Tech in the UK and features a Blu-ray DVD drive, connections for your HDTV, a 19-inch wide angle touchscreen LCD monitor, and a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse set. Everything's protected under 6mm of "toughe » READ MORE

Floating stairs? I'll try anything once

By Doug Aamoth

created on: 05/12/08

I'll be honest; these stairs don't look safe. I know they look cool but how cool would you look hugging the wall all the way up? I'd be petrified. And what a spot to park your laptop!

This staircase was designed by Jordi Vayreda of Spain for a real-life client who now has the floating stairs in his or her real-life home.

I'd be interested to know if the staircase has some sort of weight limit. Any physics whiz kids out there care to comment o » READ MORE

Simple $70 table and magazine rack combo

By Doug Aamoth

table

Here's a relatively straight-forward concept; a small table with a built-in magazine rack. It's perfect for, well, reading magazines! I'm no table expert but I'm guessing you could use this for other things too, like "eating" or "supporting objects" -- sky's the limit, really. Here's the product description from Amazon.com's web site,

"The Sutton Magazine Table by Adesso, joins a black metal magazine rack with powder coated steel base and te » READ MORE

created on: 03/06/08

If you're looking for a no-nonsense way to search Craigslist for furniture and other goodies and you're not a stickler for proper vowel-usage, check out crgslst.com -- a new, easy-to-use search tool.

You basically enter what you're looking for in the search pane, select your location (you only have to do this part once) and you'll get a list of titles in the far right pane. Clicking on a title reveals the entire listing in a nice simple drop » READ MORE

Cramped for space? Hang a room outside your window!

By Doug Aamoth

house-cube

Yes, that's pretty much exactly what it appears to be; a box suspended off the side of a building, supported by steel cables. Known as the "Rucksack House," it's "a hovering illuminated space that looks like a cross between temporary scaffolding and minimal sculpture...intended to be an additional room that can be suspended from the facade of any residential building."

I don't know about the whole "any residential building" part -- you'd lik » READ MORE

Monster Skin Rug is only slightly less romantic

By Doug Aamoth

monsterskinrug

Bear skin rugs are soooo 1974. Here's one for our day in age; the "Monster Skin Rug" from Longoland.com's Joshua Ben Longo.

It's made from brushed woven cashmere and wool polymer clay and is available in small, medium, or large sizes running 18x26, 36x50, or 50x70 inches, respectively.

Pricing is available upon request, so I've made peace with the notion that I'll probably never have one of these unless I can find and subdue an actual mons » READ MORE
