'Sustainable Dave' doesn't throw anything away for an entire year

Dave Chameides wants to show us how much trash we throw away each year. The average amount of trash generated by single American every year is around 1,700 pounds. That's almost an entire ton! What Chameides - known as "Sustainable Dave" to his friends - is doing might not be the best idea if you create anything close to the average amount of yearly trash: He's not throwing anything away for a whole year.

He keeps all of his garbage in his basement. As gross as that sounds, he's doing it to try to cut back on the amount of stuff he consumes. And a guy with a name like Sustainable Dave probably doesn't have all that much stuff in his basement, huh? Well, he doesn't. At the moment, he's only got about 30 pounds of stuff. He says that the average American would have accumulated about 1,000 pounds by now.

Dave built a worm composter for food items, which I think we can all agree is a great idea. That'd be one stinky basement otherwise.
